Fotograf Huong Ky Photo, Archiv eines Vorreiter-Filmemachers in der Zeit Indochinas

Der Name Huong Ky Photo ist eher mit der Geschichte des Kinos in Vietnam als mit Fotografie verbunden.

Das Fotostudio befindet sich in der Hang Trong Straße (Rue des Tambours) in Hanoi und wurde 1905 von Herrn Nguyen Lan Huong (1887–1949) gegründet.

Diese Straße ist berühmt für die Herstellung besonderer Holzschnittgemälde. Der Kunsthandwerker druckt nur die schwarzen Umrisse des Bildes und vollendet dann die Details von Hand. Pigmente werden direkt auf ein Papier namens Xuyến chỉ (giấy Xuyến chỉ) aufgetragen,

Photographer Khanh Ky, The first photo reporter in Vietnam (Indochina period)

Khanh Ky’s real name is Nguyen Dinh Khanh (1874-1946), opened a photography studio in 1892 on Hang Da street. The business being successful he opened many studios in Hanoi, Haiphong, Saigon (1907, 1924)  even in China at Guangzhou (1924).Unlike other photographers, he attached particular importance to train his operators who mainly came from Lai Xa village, in Ha Dong province who is considered as considered the cradle of Vietnamese photography.

In 1910, Khanh Ky went to France to study photography.

Erste historische Schnappschüsse und Straßenfotografie in Vietnam

Dieses Album ist ein seltenes Archiv mit Schnappschüssen und Sofortfotos, die M. Barbet auf seiner Reise von Marseille (Frankreich) nach Hanoi (Vietnam) im frühen 20. Jahrhundert gemacht hat

In der Regel wurde das Fotografieren zu dieser Zeit von professionellen Fotografen durchgeführt, da für den Prozess die Einrichtung schwerer und voluminöser Geräte erforderlich war. Die geringe Empfindlichkeit des Films erforderte zudem eine lange Belichtungszeit.
