Anlässlich des 50. Jahrestages des Kriegsendes beschloss ich, mich zur DMZ zu wagen, die etwa 100 km von der ehemaligen Kaiserstadt Huế entfernt liegt. Es war nicht mein erstes Mal in dieser Region, aber eine psychologische Barriere hatte sicherlich meine Neugier zurückgehalten, diese Straße in Richtung Norden zu nehmen, ohne wirklich auf weitere kulturelle oder touristische Küstenorte zu stoßen.

Before North Vietnam’s independence in 1954, it was called Paul-Doumer Bridge, named after Paul Doumer – the governor-general of French Indochina and then French president. Einige Auszüge aus der Reisegeschichte über Jeanne Marie Méchin an Bord der Paul Lecat im November 1923 zwischen Marseille und Saigon. Es dauerte einen Monat, bis diese Briefe Frankreich erreichten, bis die Luftpostverbindung zwischen Frankreich und Indochina die Zeit auf eine Woche verkürzte.
