Sukhothai Buddha Enlightment #3

Sukhothai was in the 13th to the 14h century the capital of the first united and independent Tai state and it has been abandoned in the 16th century with the raise of the Ayutthaya kingdom.

The Sukhothai Historical Park has been declared World Heritage Site by the UNESCO: there are 193 ruins on 70 km2 of land, the remains of the royal palace and twenty-six temples, the largest being Wat Mahathat.

The Sukhothai style of the Buddhas is unique by the gracious appearance, finely curled hair, broad shoulders, oval face, absence of hair lines, long ears, thin lips and a slight smile. Watching at their face is truly an experience of enlightenment.
